DESCRIPTION: EPW - E.W. Streeter, London, keyless lever, 51mm, heavy 18K gold original demi-HC bearing London hallmarks for 1883, incuse "E.W.S." marking, gold cuvette, swivel pendant, white enamel SS dial, SW-nail-set, fully capped lever escapement, diamond endstone, 19J, gilt mvt, s#7106. Gross weight of assembled watch 92.9 dwt (144.5 g). E.W. Streeter was a manufacturing jeweler and dealer in watches who in the 1860s boasted of using machinery in his watch production. This claim was vigorously challenged at the time in the 'Horological Journal' as it was believed to be greatly exaggerated. Per our very knowledgeable consignor, the present watch movement appears likely to be a product of P. & A. Guye who were using machinery to produce small numbers of watches in the 1880s.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered micro-fine scratches and haze spots; dial with hl at 5; fine hands, oxide near tip of minute; case front lift springs not raising lid as they need full manual assistance to open the lid, case shows light wear, scattered fine scratches and profuse micro-fine scratches, small but prominent ding to lower-right shoulder of rear, few scattered nicks elsewhere, demi-HC lid enameling largely intact though with few losses to outer border and with some loss to minute chapter at upper portion; tight bow thinned at top, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystals.
ESTIMATE: $3000 - $3400
